First GREENCAP publication is out!

February 2024

We are excited to share that our partners from BeD have published their first article as part of the GREENCAP project. The article, entitled “Water-based supercapacitors with amino acid electrolytes: a green perspective for capacitance enhancement was released on December 24, 2023, in Batteries & Supercaps, a high-impact journal (IF = 6.043) focused on electrochemical energy storage. The article introduces a novel approach to enhance Electrochemical Double-Layer Capacitor (EDLC) performance using affordable amino acid water solutions as electrolytes. Amino acids, such as L-lysine and L-proline, with their zwitterionic nature and high dielectric permittivity, improve capacitive performance compared to traditional electrolytes. Experimental results show a 50% gravimetric capacitance enhancement in EDLCs using amino acid-containing electrolytes at low specific currents. We are very proud of this achievement and wish BeD continued success!
