The Cambridge Graphene Centre (CGC) has state of the art equipment and facilities covering all aspects of science and technology of graphene and related materials. These include state of the art equipment for the development of solutions and inks, printed and flexible energy storage devices, spectroscopy characterization, and a dedicated dry room and energy lab, all key to achieve the GREENCAP goals.
Why this project?
The Cambridge Graphene Centre’s mission is to investigate the science and technology of graphene, carbon allotropes, layered crystals and hybrid nanomaterials. This engineering innovation centre allows our partners to meet, and effectively establish joint industrial-academic activities to promote innovative and adventurous research with an emphasis on applications. The over facilities and equipment have been selected to promote alignment with industry. GREENCAP ideally fits the CGC mission of bringing graphene and related materials from the lab to the factory floor. GREENCAP can contribute to a paradigm shift in energy storage technology fitting the aims of Cambridge Zero, the University of Cambridge initiative aiming to maximize Cambridge’s contribution towards achieving a resilient and sustainable zero-emission world.
What in the project?
UCAM will lead the multiscale characterization of EMs and electrolytes, which will involve the compositional characterizations, structural/morphological and other physical characterizations of the materials used by the GREENCAP consortium. UCAM will collaborate with the partners to tailor the properties of GRM-based electrodes to increase their electrochemical performance. UCAM will provide state of the art GRM-based inks, and pastes, to be used in electrode fabrication and characterization. UCAM will develop novel supercapacitors based on these materials, to be then scaled up by project partners. To ensure this, UCAM will upscale the production processes, while maintaining a low environmental footprint.
GREENCAP contributes to achieving the vision of the Cambridge-Zero initiative: that a resilient and sustainable zero-emissions world is attainable. Universities are central to generating and disseminating the knowledge and ideas that will shape a rapid transition to such a world. GREENCAP’s world leading academic and industrial partners will provide a significant impetus to support the transition towards climate-neutrality.
