GREENCAP publication by BeD

We proudly share that our partners from BeDimensional (BeD) published a new article, entitled: Hydrogen-Assisted Thermal Treatment of Electrode Materials for Electrochemical Double-Layer Capacitors. The work was published in ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces .

The article explores ways to enhance the performance of electrochemical double-layer capacitors (EDLCs), which are important for energy storage in various applications. Currently, the capacitance of electrode materials in these capacitors is limited by factors such as inaccessible micropores, quantum capacitance, and surface impurities. The study focuses on H2-assisted thermal treatment and its effects on the chemical, structural and thermal properties of activated carbon and corresponding electrodes. Through various analyses, the researchers found that this treatment improves the energy density of EDLCs by over 35% compared to untreated electrodes. Contrary to previous studies, the improvement is attributed not to graphitization of the carbon but to the removal of surface contaminants, leading to better surface capacitance. The study also highlights changes in active material and binder contents as factors contributing to increased capacitance. Overall, this research shed new light on the relationship between the modifications of the electrode materials induced by H2-assisted thermal treatments and the performance of the resulting EDLCs.

We congratulate BeD on their success and wish them continued achievements in their endeavors!
