Great News! We are pleased to announce that our partner Carbon Ukraine contributed to the article “Pulsed Electrochemical Exfoliation for an HF-Free Sustainable MXene Synthesis”, showcasing results from the GREENCAP project.
The work presents a scalable electrochemical method for MXene synthesis using a non-toxic NaBF₄/HCl electrolyte. By applying cathodic pulsing through pulse voltammetry, etching efficiency is improved via hydrogen bubble formation, which restores electrochemical activity. The method achieves up to 60% yield of electrochemical MXene (EC-MXene) in a single exfoliation cycle, with no byproducts.
Further properties of EC-MXenes such as dimensions and adhesion energy of single flakes, vibrational peaks, and interlayer spacing are provided by atomic force microscopy (AFM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy (Raman), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) respectively.
This pulsed electrochemical method enables effective surface reactivation at the electrode interface, leading to improved exfoliation and offering a viable path toward scalable and green industrial MXene production.
